Thus far…./Hasta ahora

'K so, catching up on my thoughts and feelings….

It's been sweet and bitter which makes for a perfect recipe to bring about an exquisite uniqueness, according to Kim Clement. It's a unique sound, the expression of my heart through tough circumstances… AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;O !!!

IHOP-Miami has been on a building fast. We are relocating, aiming towards a 24/7 prayer and worship reality in our city. This is the longging deep within the heart of every worshipper whose heart is being molded by the Potter after the design of His favorite worshipper, King David.

We are on the move, meeting in tents… I mean houses and praying through till we conquer our promise land.

After barely a month of walking through this transitional wilderness, my shoes nearly gave out... well, my car did, literally. Anyway, I've tasted the overflow of coarse, unrelenting tears under the scorching heat of oppressive trials of all kinds, financial trials, emotional trials, mind-struggling trials... and the slightest hint of hope felt more like a mirage, ever fleeting, unattainable. Oh, but I was not disappointed.

I learned the song of the wilderness. It's the song you can only hear through adverse circumstances. It's the song that your heart sings back to God when it figures out the worst thing that could happen is death and death for the Christian is not that horrible a thing, after all, this earth is not our home. I was resolute that this trial period wasn't going to have the best of me, I was gonna have IT. As it happens in the lives of His children, it just so happened during this time of the unleashed Refiner's fire, every preaching lined up and every worship set echoed this message:

"In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ" 1 Peter 1:6-7

"I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed." Romans 8:18-19

There was a point to my suffering and there was something beautiful being brought forth- a purified heart and a surpassing glory. As I pressed in and through it the Lord ministered a new anointing to me. I arose with a new sound, a strong sprit of praise, full of courage and endurance. I began to increase in compassion for those that have what money can buy but lack true joy in life, the kind that nothing or no one can take from you because of its spiritual composition, incorruptible, inalterable by any adverse situation faced here on earth.

I urge you and challenge you to press in through the difficult circumstances you may be facing. Run to the secret place, do not run from it, for there you will receive your song, through the wilderness. You won't be there for ever but while you are there, make the most out of it and utter sounds of gratitude, of trust in God and He is sure not to disappoint you. He will give you a treasure in exchange for your temporarily suspended comforts. God can not fail, 2 Timothy 2:13.

The following is a little blurb I wrote for this month's IHOP-Miami Newsletter. It's a recount of what brought me to IHOP-Miami in the first place. reminiscence brings perspective. It's been a beautiful journey... thus far…. O yes, and I have dreads. It's my deep into IHOP-Miami make over ; ) So far so good.. hair wise.

My journey to IHOP-Miami.

Mine is the story of many aspiring worship leaders in the U.S. I had the wrong goal with the right motive- to become "successful" (famous/rich/known) leading people into the presence of God. I just thought that's what it took to "make it" in the Christian music scene. My parents are pastors and I began to lead worship at church since I was 16. As an avid musician/songwriter it was only a matter of time before I had a portfolio full of catchy tunes ready to be recorded. So I did. With the help of talented friends and family I put together my first praise and worship CD in Spanish, Nuevo Cántico- Alégrense. And the sensible thing to do after such an accomplishment is to promote it! So I did that. I went as far as my connections took me in South Florida and abroad.

I soon realized the dream given to me in the Secret Place had turned into a nightmare, a race towards an ever fading finale. I became bitter towards what was once my gift. I was disillusioned, disappointed. I looked at every other up-n-coming "artist" with a sense of jealousy and competition. I had lost sight of my treasure. I was depressed and confused about my journey. If this was my dream but it wasn't really what I wanted after all, what was I suppose to do now?

It was then I walked in through the doors of IHOP-Miami, with the desire to just be carried and encountered by the lover of my soul, Jesus, to rekindle that first love which I had misplaced in all this chasing after the wind. I did. I found Him, or better said He fond me and placed me back where I was meant to be all along, by His feet. This is the place of most importance to me now. Who I am before His eyes defines me and it's how I measure my "success". My CDs sit in boxes in my closet and I don't care. I give them away, in fact. I am so happy and fulfilled knowing I have "made it" in His sight.

I have learned to worship with my lifestyle. It's a sweet fragrance before His throne. My life is the song He hears continuously whether I'm singing or not. And the joy I feel? "The world can't take it from me 'cause it didn't give it to me"- a lyric He gave in the wilderness. Now I create and produce even more than I did back then. I write new songs practically every day! But this time it's out of pure artistic enjoyment, out of love for Him, out of gratitude for the gift of life He's given me, definitely not because I'm in a "race" in the industry. I challenge other worshipers out there to re-evaluate their journey. To trace back their steps and survey their losses and gains. The Secret Place is too wonderful to loose and the praise of the masses is not worth aiming for.

Grateful and in love with Jesus,

Cristilyn

Cristilyn
